Black lesbian stripper culture film is Pornhub’s first non-porn feature

Online porn giant Pornhub has this week released its first non-adult film, a documentary about black lesbian strip club culture.

Artist and filmmaker Leilah Weinraub’s film Shakedown is a stream-of-consciousness narrative about the people who frequented the Los Angeles lesbian strip club scene in the early 2000s, Variety has reported.

Comprising selections from almost 15 hours of footage collected by Weinraub over many years, the hour-long film is a funny and sensual look into the vibrant club subculture.

It shows the influence of the ballroom and stripper cultures on the scene, presenting the stories of queer dancers in a way that transcends traditional narrative style.

“There’s a cool opportunity right now to present films in the art space, there’s more openness to diversity and content, and a different sort of storytelling,” Weinraub said.

Shakedown will stream free on Pornhub all March before being released on the Criterion Channel, then the iTunes store mid-year.

Weird and wonderful porn

Pornhub’s range of content has expanded in recent years beyond ‘traditional’ adult offerings, with last year’s most popular searches including alien, cosplay, and ASMR.

This month, coronavirus porn is the latest viral hit on the site.

More than 100 related videos are already available on Pornhub, with tongue-in-cheek titles such as ‘Coronavirus patients fuck in quarantine room’.

They range in theme from goofy to serious, with some even including short public health summaries about the virus for viewer education.

“I think people are searching for it as a silly novelty,” porn actor Chase Poundher, who appears in ‘COVID-19 coronavirus: Horny slut has to use protection during outbreak!’, told Vice.

“I think it’s a minority who actually whack off to this kind of content.

“There are a lot of people with a mask kink, but I don’t think that is directly related to this COVID-19 trend.

“I think it’s attractive to people because it can help lighten the mood on a serious subject.”
