Todrick Hall drops surprise Quarantine Queen EP

American singer and songwriter Todrick Hall has released a surprise new quarantine-themed album, produced in just a week.

The new EP is a banger, featuring six tracks perfect for keeping your spirits up during isolation.

The new songs, including ‘Mas(k)ot’, ‘Werk Out’, ‘Rent’, and ‘TikTok’, are sure to strike a chord with fans adjusting to life at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Meow’ is a topical ode to Netflix hit Tiger King, a documentary following outrageous gay zookeeper and country singer Joe Exotic.

For giving us the gay Billy Ray Cyrus”

“What the fuck am I even watching?
Don’t wanna finish but I just can’t stop it”

The jewel of the album is ‘Mask, Gloves, Soap, Scrubs’, a gleeful self-parody of Hall’s own hit ‘Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels’.

The official video has a gloriously DIY but glossy aesthetic, featuring drag queens, fetish wear, and isolation-style improvised costumes.

As well as further shout-outs to Tiger King, the song features relatable references to quarantine life, from toilet paper shortages and grown-out haircuts to everyone’s new pastimes of eating and napping.

The video has been watched over 1.3 million times on YouTube this week.

“Exactly a week ago I decided to write and create an entire album to hopefully lift your spirits during this quarantine!” announced Hall.

“Nina Simone once said, ‘It’s an artist’s duty to reflect the times in which we live.’

“I hope this inspires you to stay healthy, stay creative, stay safe, and stay home while continuing to stay fabulous!”

Hall first found wide fame on American Idol in 2010 and has since released three studio albums.

His career has also included starring on Broadway as Lola in Kinky Boots and his role as a choreographer and judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Hall’s planned world tour for this year was postponed due to the pandemic, and is now set to hit Australia and New Zealand in January 2021.
