Pride Cruise to set sail from Sydney next year

Cruise giant P&O Australia has announced that its first-ever LGBTIQA+ Pride Cruise will set sail from Sydney next year.

The special celebratory cruise is set to offer something for everyone, from gay weddings to educational events, along with a whole lot of glitter.

The three-night cruise, the first of its kind in Australia, will depart on the Pacific Adventure ship from Sydney on Friday 4 November 2022 before returning on the Monday.

Australian LGBTIQA+ organisations will be on board, including longstanding HIV charity the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation.

P&O said the trip will be “a celebratory cruise for members of the LGBTIQA+ community… to honour pride in self, the diversity of the community and the endless variety of talented artists, entertainers and educators in it”.

“Our Pride Cruise will be a safe space for members of the community, something curated just for them,” they said.

Queer Screen will hold a special onboard film festival as part of the rainbow weekend.

“We are delighted to be ‘onboard’ to host the first-ever Queer Screen @ Sea Film Festival,” Queer Screen organisers said.

The big queer entertainment selection will also feature special guests including “international superstar, sex symbol, accordionist, and Berlin boy wonder” Hans the German.

Other guests will include queer sports stars and diversity icons such as Australian rugby league player Meg Ward.

“Guests on the Pride Cruise will be able to celebrate the themes of love, compassion, respect, and understanding through lectures, educational and spiritual events, same-sex marriages, and renewal of vows,” said P&O Partnerships Manager Chris Rich.

After many months of limited travel opportunities for most, the Pride Cruise promises a big, sequin-filled weekend of celebrating the queer community.

Cruising is set to be COVID-safe, with measures including strict hygiene and onboard healthcare in place.

Tickets are available online now and already selling fast.
