Darren Hayes to headline Mardi Gras Parade

Music icon Darren Hayes has been announced as the headline act for this year’s Mardi Gras Parade.

In his first live Australian performance in a decade, singer-songwriter and queer fave Hayes will return home to head a superstar lineup.

Fresh off the back of the release of his new track ‘Let’s Try Being In Love’, Hayes’ performance at Mardi Gras will mark his 20th year as a solo recording artist, as well as the 25th anniversary of Savage Garden’s acclaimed self-titled debut album.

This year’s Mardi Gras Parade will again be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in accordance with COVID-19 safety requirements, rather than its usual home along Oxford Street.

Thousands of marchers and hundreds of floats will create a glittery rainbow stadium spectacular.

This year’s official Mardi Gras Party has been cancelled due to the pandemic Public Health Order affecting New South Wales.

However, Mardi Gras Parade parties will be held at venues around the country, and applications are open now for a share in $100,000 of grants to help small businesses and venues hold COVID-safe viewing events.

On Sunday 6 March, Apollo The Party will return to the Metro Theatre with a huge mix of classics and new tunes in a dancefloor kaleidoscope of colour and lights, featuring DJs Adam Love, Dan Murphy, Ruby, and Matt Bachl.

The exciting lineup of festival events this year will also include the iconic Fair Day at Victoria Park, pool parties, comedy, art events, and more.

On Sunday 27 February, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will lead a free Living History Walk to discover the queer history of Kings Cross and Darlinghurst.

Queer Screen’s 29th Mardi Gras Film Festival will bring the latest and best LGBTIQA+ films to cinemas across Sydney and on-demand Australia wide.

This year’s Mardi Gras festivities will kick off on Friday 18 February, with the world-famous Parade held on Saturday 5 March 2022.

Tickets are available online now.
